Movies, Great big movies

There are 5 great Disney "classic" movies that serve as themes for each section of the resort. The movies are The Mighty Ducks, Herbie: The Love Bug, Fantasia, 101 Dalmatians and Toy Story.

Giant images of characters or props from the movies tower over the courtyards. These images give the All Star Movies it's character.

The kids will love it. (Some parents will love it too.)

Herbie: The Love Bug - A 25 foot tall Herbie stands in watch over the courtyard while tools and flags line the buildings. There's even a winners circle where the kids (of all ages) can take pictures holding the big trophy.

Fantasia - Both the original Fantasia and the 2000 remake are depicted in the Fantasia area. Giant water bucket carrying broomsticks stand watch while the Sorcerer's Hat makes a huge appearance. A huge Fantasia 2000 book replica covers some of the stairways.

Toy Story - Buzz Lightyear and Woody watch over things while Army Men climb out of a Bucket O' Soldiers that cover the stairs. Make sure to check out Buzz's name in blocks.

101 Dalmatians - 50 foot tall Pongo and Perdy watch over the little ones that dot the courtyard. Big yellow fire hydrants cover stairwells.

The Mighty Ducks - Hockey Sticks and pucks line the buildings. Goals cover the stairwells, while the signature hockey mask looks over the main courtyard.

The All Star Movies Resort is decorated with kids in mind. There's nothing subtle here. Make sure to let the kids take time to check out all the little things like the trophy area in the Herbie section.

Rooms

The rooms at the Disney All Star Movies Resort are standard hotel rooms. They measure 260 sq. feet. They are very functional, but there is not any wasted space. These rooms are the same size as the Pop Century rooms. They are reasonably comfortable for a family of 4.

The interiors of the rooms are painted to match the decor of the building. Tile colors, borders and wall colors will change depending on the building you are assigned.

Number of guests per room

Disney rules allow 4 guests per room. You can add 1 infant that can sleep in a crib. If you have more than 2 adults, Disney charges a $10.00 per night per adult fee. (4 adults would be an extra $20.00 per night.

Money Saving Tip: If your family has more than 4, or you just want some extra space, reserve 2 rooms. Disney only requires one adult per room. You can request connecting rooms, Disney All Star Movies has lots of connecting rooms.

Two rooms would give you 520 square feet which is more space than any other regular room at Disney World. PLUS you would have two bathrooms. (If you have any females in your party, two bathrooms will come in handy.)

What's in the room

The rooms at the All Star Movies are equipped with everything most travelers need for a great vacation. There are 2 types of rooms available, Standard and Preferred. The only difference is the proximity to the Cinema Hall.

Below is a list of the furnishings in the rooms:

  • Layout of standard room at the All Star Movies Resort
Layout of the king room of the All Star Movies Resort
    Two full size beds, or
  • One king size bed which can be requested at least 5 days before arrival
  • A 27-inch TV
  • One table (approximately 2 X 2) and 2 chairs.
  • 2 telephones with data ports for internet access (there is an extra charge for internet access and phone calls)
  • A nightstand between the full size beds.
  • An alarm clock
  • An armoire that has 6 drawers for storage
  • A keyed safe
  • Bathroom with a shower tub, or a walk in shower in the handicapped rooms
  • A HAIR DRYER
  • Refrigerators are available on request ($10.00 charge)

All Disney World resort rooms include some nice extras, Disney soap, shampoo, and hand lotion. Sometimes Mousekeeping even makes towel animals to amuse children.

Family Suites

In 2006 Disney introduced Family Suites at the All Star Movies Resort. The suites were created by combining two existing guest rooms.

What's in a Family Suite?

Layout of the Family Suite at the Disney All Star Movies ResortA family suite is two connecting rooms reconfigured into a suite. The suite has one queen bed and a sleeper sofa. There are two bathrooms and a microwave, coffee maker and mini-refrigerator have been added. There are a couple of sleeper chairs and a desk and chair in the suite.

Are the Family Suites a good deal?

Maybe. If you use a refrigerator and microwave to save money on meals, the Family Suites could save you money. On the other hand, booking two rooms is cheaper, and you get 4 beds that can sleep 8.

Dad's view of Family Suites

Dad is not a big fan of the Family Suites. Look at the layout. There is only one real bed. Yes there is lots of room, and Dad loves the idea of having space on a vacation, but for a family of 4 where they kids don't have any where to sleep.

A Family Suite would work great for a couple, but unless your kids are very small, a Family Suite doesn't make much sense.
