Best day of the week to visit Magic Kingdom?

Dad's Godfather Answer

Amy, thanks for the question. It's a really hard one to answer, but I'll try.

First let me quote Tom Hanks from one of Dad's favorite movies "You've Got Mail" (Yes, Dad's a sentimental slob and cries every time Brinkley comes bounding around the corner) - the best time to visit the Magic Kingdom is Monday, Tuesday, Tursday". (Yes, that's the way I meant to spell it.)

The best day of the week to visit the Magic Kingdom depends. It depends on a few variables. Do you have park hopper tickets? Are you staying in a Disney hotel? What time of year is it? Are there any special events coming up? Did you get reservations at Cinderella's Royal Table?

In Dad's opinion any day can be a great day in the Magic Kingdom. Are there some days of the week that are busier than others, sure. Sometimes the locals come out on the weekends. Sometimes they don't. Sunday mornings can be very quiet, but Sunday afternoons can get real busy.

Some of the guidebooks talk about vacations ending on a certain day of the week and the next day being a good day to visit. I'm not sold on that. There is some evidence that the day after Extra Magic Hours the crowds are lower in the Magic Kingdom, but not significantly so.

But the bottom line is what do you need to make your plan work for you.

If you'd like Dad to take a look at a specific time frame we can work together to see what the best day is for a visit to the Magic Kingdom.

Oh, when to go... :)

We will have available July 18th (Monday), 19,20, 21 and 22. We are trying to go to Epcot, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood (with 2 days of rest). We are staying off site. Per your calendar, Magic Kingdom would be good Tuesday or Wed. Per touringplans.com (there is no 'best' day) however, Thursday rates as only 5.2 out of 10. Thursday has extra magic hours. Is it in my best interest to pick a day that has extra hours that we can't take advantage of. Our intent was to be at all parks by opening so we could zip in. Any thoughts?

My site only rates general crowds for the whole park. Touringplans.com goes a little deeper and projects the crowds for each park. I would take their advice about which is best for that week.

Going to the Extra Magic Hours park is a mixed bag. It's great to get there early and enjoy the rides that are open without any crowds, but the fun only lasts for a little while. On early Extra Magic Hour days that park will fill up quicker than on a normal day, so the lines get longer earlier. You will experience smaller crowds for the first hour or 2 then the crowds will be larger for the rest of the day.

If you have a park hopper pass, I'd suggest going to the early Extra Magic Hours park then around noon when the lines start filling up move over to another park. If you don't have park hopper, avoid the early Extra Magic Hours park.
