Caribbean Beach Resort

The Caribbean Beach Resort was the first of the Disney Moderate Resorts, which means the rooms are the largest of the moderates. They are about 340 square feet. (That compares with 260 for the Values and an average of around 400 in the Deluxes.)

In 2009, Disney opened the brand new Pirate Rooms in Trinadad South. Now kids of all ages can really be Pirates of the Caribbean.

The Caribbean Beach Resort has 6 different "villages" that make up the hotel. Each "village" has a pool, laundry and a bus stop (the most important thing).

The "villages"

  • Trinadad North - the closest to the Old Port Royale
  • Trinadad South - features the pirate rooms
  • Jamica - linked to Old Port Royale by the bridge
  • Aruba - next to Jamica and shares the same bridge
  • Barbados - the most remote of the "towns" (this is where Dad was exiled)
  • Martinique - between Customs House and Old Port Royale

I hear a Beach Boys song in there somewhere.

The Rooms

The rooms here are pretty standard hotel rooms. Like the Value Resorts, they have 2 double beds (although Disney is transitioning to queen beds in the moderates). Rooms are functional, with a little extra space, but not much.

The interiors of the rooms are decorated to match the decor of the building. Pastel colors abound. The bed spreads, the wall paper are done in muted colors.

Number of guests per room

Disney rules allow 4 guests per room in the double bed rooms. Only 2 in the rooms with king beds. You can add 1 infant that can sleep in a crib. If you have more than 2 adults, Disney charges a $10.00 per night per adult fee. (4 adults would be an extra $20.00 per night.

What's in the room

The rooms have a fairly standard list of furnishings. Just one word about the beds. These beds aren't standard hotel beds. They don't have a box springs. They are mattresses set on top of a wood frame. (Some people report they are squeaky.)

Below is a list of the furnishings in the rooms:

  • Layout of standard room at the Caribbean Beach Resort
Layout of the king room of the Caribbean Beach Resort
    Two full size beds, or
  • One king size bed which can be requested at least 5 days before arrival
  • A 27-inch TV
  • One table and 2 chairs.
  • 2 telephones with data ports for internet access (there is an extra charge for internet access and phone calls)
  • A nightstand between the full size beds.
  • An alarm clock
  • An armoire that has drawers for storage
  • A keyed safe
  • Bathroom with a shower tub, or a walk in shower in the handicapped rooms
  • A HAIR DRYER
  • Refrigerators and coffee makers are standard in the rooms.

All Disney World resort rooms include some nice extras, Disney soap, shampoo, and hand lotion. Sometimes Mousekeeping even makes towel animals to amuse children.

Pirate Suites

A couple of years ago Disney introduced Pirate Suites to the Caribbean Beach Resort. A Pirate Suite is a standard sized room that has been decorated with dark woods and Jolly Rogers all around Arrgh!

The Pirate Suites are located in the Trinidad South building and cost a bit extra.

Dad's Bottom Line

Rooms at the Caribbean Beach are large enough for most families of 4, (unless it rains and you are trying to dry everything you own) but 4 adults might not be real comfortable.
