Dad's Picks: Signature/Two Credit Restaurants at Walt Disney World

Dad's Picks: Signature/Two Credit Restaurants at Walt Disney World

by Dad
(On the road)

This one is going to be short and sweet, or maybe not so sweet. Here are Dad's Picks for Signature or Two Credit Restaurants at Walt Disney World.

Signature Restaurants

Just like last week when I talked about Table Service dining, I am only ranking restaurants I've eaten at. When it comes to 2 credit or Signature restaurants that's a pretty short list. I'm kind of frugal so going out and spending a couple hundred dollars on a restaurant that I might not like is not something we do very often.

Plus, I'm a meat and potatoes guy so I'm not real adventurous food wise. When a menu starts talking about Chimicurri or Couscous, Tamarind, or Confit I run for the hills. Give me a good piece of meat and a potato and Dad is happy.

That all boils down to this is going to be a very short list. I've only eaten at 4, yes FOUR, Signature or two credit restaurants. That's it. Yes, there are a few I hope to eat at some day (and a few you can't make me eat at), but my rankings are based on the 4 I've actually tried.

#3 - The Boathouse

Coming in at the number 3 position is The Boathouse in Disney Springs. I can't say I had a great meal there, but it was good. (Too much bread on the lobster roll.) The look of the restaurant is really special. If you like boats, you need to see this place.

#2 - Cinderella's Royal Table

We had the BEST. MEAL. EVER. according to The Man-Child's Southern Belle when we went to Cinderella's Royal Table a couple of years ago. Yes, 6 full grown adults and no kids at Cindy's. The food was awesome. We all cleaned up all of our plates. There wasn't a morsel of food left over. Every course Appetizer, Entree, Dessert. YUMMY!

Plus we got to see a couple of birthdays and a proposal. It really was a great experience.

#1 - Hoop Dee Doo Revue

YES. I'm serious. The Hoop Dee Doo Revue may be my favorite place in all of Walt Disney World to eat. No, I'm not kidding.

I told you I am a meat and potatoes kind of guy. What does the Hoop Dee Doo Revue serve? Chicken and Ribs and mashed potatoes and a whole lot of corn (even some that's not on the table). I even love the salad. In fact, it's BEST. SALAD. EVER!

We ate at the Hoop Dee Doo a couple of nights after Cinderella's Royal Table and The Man-Child's Southern Belle pronounced it the BEST. MEAL. EVER. Sorry Cindy, your title didn't last long.

Didn't make the list

Yes, I said we had tried 4 restaurants and I'm sad to say that I can't recommend the fourth because of the experience we had there.

I'm talking about Le Cellier. Yes, Le Cellier. I know. Quit yelling at me. Everyone loves Le Cellier but I can only speak from what I experienced. We had mediocre and undercooked steaks. Terrible desserts (the worst thing I ever put in my mouth and that includes Brussel Sprouts), and really, really bad service. When a meal takes 2 hours your glasses shouldn't sit empty for over an hour at any restaurant and especially at a Signature or high end restaurant.

So, no. I can't put Le Cellier on my list.

There are a bunch of restaurants I would like to try on upcoming trips. STK Orlando, the Yachtsman Steakhouse, and maybe I'll even get adventurous and try Paddlefish (but probably just at lunch when I can get the lobster roll).

Dad's Bottom Line

So there you have it. Short and sweet. Dad's Picks for Signature/Two Credit dining. Yeah, it could be more comprehensive and some day, maybe it will be.

How about some help? What are your favorite Signature/Two Credit Restaurants? Leave me a comment below and let me know. I'd love to hear what you think.

Hoop Dee Doo is our favorite too! Love the food and the entertainment. The service is great, just so much fun and we like to go in the afternoon because it's not so crowded.
Love Cinderella's Table the food was really good, the service amazing and all the princess's were great. My grandchildren loved it.
Haven't eaten at the Boathouse yet...but I have looked at it and the atmosphere is amazing.

We ate at LeCellier 2 years ago, and hate to say but it was one of the worst meals I've ever had at WDW. And, yes, the dessert had to be on the list of worst things I've ever eaten. Don't remember the name but it was some kind of smoking chocolate. I've never licked an ashtray, but I imagine if you mixed chocolate and cigarette ashes together, it would taste like this dessert.

Haven't eaten at HDDR yet, but didnrat at CRT last year. The food was good, the Castle was beautiful, and meeting the princesses was fun. Glad that I did get to experience CRT but don't necessarily have to go again. Artist Point and Narcoosee are both very good!!

I am an avid Disney Fan and have visited Disney world many times. As a 2 adult family we enjoy sampling the food and have enjoyed many most of restaurants at Disney.

All have a certain ambiance and personality and there are many great picks...

For meat and potato's I would recommend the Liberty tree tavern in MK. Great feast and tasty.
Yes I agree.. The Hoop De Doo has a great meal with a show included that makes it even a better experience. We enjoy it every time we go to Disney.
The Cellier we experienced the same.
The California Grill was fabulous.
Ohana is wonderful, fun and a great pick.
We did not have a good experience at Narcoosse's.

One of our best experiences was at Monsieur Paul in France....a little fancy, but we didn't feel out of place....excellent service, one server has 2 or 3 tables at max! We kinda felt like royalty.

If Paddlefish is going to be as good as Fulton's was, I would go there also.

Agree on Le Cellier. The steak was just like a big piece of roast beef on a plate. The tables were so close together, I was constantly being bumped into. Now, The Yachtsman is another story. Compares to Del Frisco Steakhouse in NYC.
California Grill is the best dining experience in WDW.

I TOTALLY agree on Le Cellier! Way overrated! I also had bad service and mediocre food. I'm just not really a fan of their overall menu even.

Love Cali Grill
by: StacyG

We too had an amazing experience at California Grill on the last night of our early December trip. We somehow ended up with the most perfect table by the window, and it was truly magical. Ending the evening on the observation deck for the fireworks is a moment no one in our family will forget.

Besides all of the ambience, the service and quality of our meal was incredible! I typically judge restaurants by "Disney standards," but this meal was top-notch by any standard. We will definitely make it a must-see on every trip from now on.

The Best Finale
by: Dave

Okay, I'll run the risk of crowding my fave restaurant on the planet by telling you about the place that Cali Grill has in the heart of my family. Since joining DVC in 94 we made an annual pilgrimage to WDW part of our life and by accident originally made Cali Grill our last night of vacation dinner before heading home.

We book dinner so that we are there for the nighttime fireworks which you can view from the roof or listen to piped in in a darkened restaurant. Request a window seat and if lucky you get request. It's not a cheap dinner to be sure but menu has something for everyone and is special. Largest wine list you'll ever need.

One year for our 25th anniversary I sent an email ahead to manager asking for window seat and ended up with the corner table, single server, free bottle of champagne, table decorated for 25th and for desert, a small size version of all 6 that day - all on the mouse plus manager came out to wish us happy anniversary.

My kids were blown away. (That manager now at poly as we stay in touch). Also little known secret is they had a teriyaki filet on menu for years that was a favorite, that you can still order off the menu and it is worth it. I have been to nice restaurants across the US - a lot from work and Cali Grill is #1 for me.

Le Cellier

We also had awful service at Le Cellier. We won't go back. It is definitely not worth two credits.

Must tries!

Love your stuff Dad but, C'MON! Hoop-De-Doo would even make my radar for 2 credits. Try Brown Derby, Tiffins, and especially California Grill.
