Dad's process of elimination Answer
Rachael,Oh, the joys of living in Florida. I'm more than a bit jealous. I'd love to just hop in the car and drive down to Walt Disney World for the day. Maybe one of these days.
About your day trip to the Magic Kingdom, we can eliminate one Friday right off the top. If the only thing you are interested in is avoiding crowds, then the Friday of the Parade taping is definitely out. That day can be pretty ugly in the Magic Kingdom.

Now as to the other 3, each has it's drawbacks so, let's talk about them a bit.First, the Friday in January. This may be the busiest of the three dates left. It's during Presidents Week and crowds will be up a little that week. Touringplans.com shows this as a slow day at the Magic Kingdom, but not as slow as the other 2. This would be a good day to visit, but I do think both of the December days will be better.

So, it's down to December 9 and 16. What a great time to be at the Magic Kingdom. The only drawback is that there is a Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party both nights. That means the park will close at 7 pm both nights. That's a bit early (the January date the park closes at 8 so it's not that much different). The crowds on the 16th will be a little bigger because it's one of the last Christmas Parties and it usually sells out. More people will be in the park later that day.Dad's Magic Kingdom page
Of course, during December all of the Christmas decorations will be out and after the parade taping, the Christmas Tree will even be up in the Magic Kingdom. Christmas at Disney World is the best time of the year.Dad's Christmas at Disney World page

Dad's Bottom Line
Rachael, I think that the 9th is the best day crowd wise for your trip. All of the dates you mentioned (except the 2nd) will be OK, but the 9th will be the best.***FACEBOOK-COMMENT***
