The Disney Fort Wilderness Campground Resort is the most unique resort at Disney World. Most of the Disney Resorts are elegant, or glitzy or even kitzy. The Fort Wilderness is rustic and rugged full of bugs and nature. But it has a real charm and some real nice extras.

You can actually rent a campsite at the resort where you can pitch a tent and sleep right out in the open. What could be better?

Campsites

Visitors can choose from one of four types of campsites at the Fort Wilderness Campground, depending on their preferences. The Partial hook-up campsite is good choice for tents or pop-up trailers.  The Full-hookup campsite has room for an RV plus an extra tent, and some campsites allow for additional equipment up to 10-feet by 60-feet in size.

The Preferred and Premium campsites are large enough to allow two tents, or a large motor home or travel trailer plus an additional tent. Pets are only allowed in designated sites.

Cabins

There are over 400 cabins you can rent at Disney Fort Wilderness Campground. The Cabins sleep 6. (Not really comfortably in Dad's opinion.) There is a full size bed, a set of bunk beds and a Murphy bed. Cabins are 504 square feet. They include a full kitchen, but only one bathroom.

The cabins are considered in the moderate category. If you love the outdoors, these might be the place for you.

Going Shopping

Shopping and other amenities

To make shopping easy, guests can have their Resort IDs set up for instant charging, avoiding the need to carry cash.  An easy and fun way to get around is to rent an electrically powered cart, which easily seats up to four adults.  The Best Friends Pet Care provides pet services, and the doggie day camp is another allows pets to romp all day and return home freshly groomed.  Babysitting and Childcare services include activities for all age groups, or parents can request individual babysitting services.

Fort Wilderness Campground adds Disney’s special touch to the camping experience. Every location is private, wooded and meticulously landscaped. Visit the Reception Outpost for information about daily activities listed in the Fort Wilderness Gazette as well as maps of the Theme Park and Wilderness Resort. The Meadow and Settlement Trading Posts sell camping supplies, propane tanks, sundries and groceries. There is a laundry facility with washers and dryers at one of the many Comfort Stations, or guests can call housekeeping for personal laundry service.

Dining

Campers, who prefer to eat out, will enjoy the Trail’s End Restaurant, which features American comfort food in an outdoor themed atmosphere. To combine entertainment with meals, visit the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue for a rollicking musical comedy presentation and family style means. For a quick pizza or nachos snack, Crockett’s Tavern is a good choice and includes a full service bar.

For much of the year, you can also have a fun picnic dinner complete with dancing with Mickey and friends at Mickey's Backyard BBQ. This is a hoot.

Activities

Try a thrilling evening jaunt on the Haunted Carriage Ride or zip around the Campground on a Segway Personal Transporter during a Wilderness Back Trail adventure. There’s plenty of fishing sites, a 2.3-mile exercise trail and a dog park for romping with canine pals.  Horseback or carriage rides take campers into the lush wilderness and everyone will love toasting marshmallows at the Sing-Along and Movie event.  Campers can also cool off in the pool, rent a bike, lounge on the beach or thrill to the many arcade games.
