Disney Grad Night
Disney Grad Night has been discontinued.
Throngs of teen cavorting to loud beating DJ led music. Disney Grad Night is not the normal Magic Kingdom party. You'd expect this kind of thing at some dark seedy place you don't want your kids going to, not at Disney World. A popular teen party at the Magic Kingdom sounds kinda cool.

When and Where
Disney Grad Nites happen two weekends each year. In 2011 the dates are April 29 and 30 and May 6 and 7. Grad nights at Disney World have moved from the Magic Kingdom to Disney Hollywood Studios back to the Magic Kingdom.
This is a very special event open to well chaperoned high school groups. Groups apply for admittance. In fact schools have been banned for students that don't follow the rules. Each group is required to have at least 1 chaperone for every 10 students.
This started for schools in the Orlando area. Now anyone who wants to make the trip can come, if accepted. If you're interested in how to plan a trip for your group for Disney Grad Night, give Dad a ring.
During the night
Loud music played by DJ's take the place of the standard park background music. During the night, several current popular teen groups preform on the castle stage. The groups scheduled to headline the 2011 parties include -
- 3 OH! 3
- Taio Cruz
- The DJ will be Pauly D.
There is even a "Party Boat" at this party. Every party should have this party boat. The Liberty Belle turns into a great big party boat making 3 special long trips around the Rivers of America.
Thousands of teens, loud rock music, late night, dark, it has the makings of a real nightmare. From before the kids even enter the park, Disney Security is looking for problems. Each guest is examined for dress code violations. Every bag is searched for unsavory items. Security is everywhere. Rides have been closed because of unDisneylike behavior. Yes, things have still happened in the past and things will happen in the future, but Disney tries hard to make a safe enviroment.
Dad's Bottom Line
I would recommend that most families avoid the Magic Kingdom on Grad Night, but since it's a specially ticketed event you can't get in anyway (unless your a chaperone). Disney Grad Nite is probably a more safe enviroment than your local prom. Give it a try, just don't expect to see Dad there.
