Dad and Family at WDW

Finally a Disney Guide with Dad-a-tude

Disney World Bay Lake

The Disney World Bay Lake serves as a great recreational area for The Contemporary Resort, the WIlderness Lodge Resort and Villas, and Fort Wilderness Campgrounds. You can find fishing and all kinds of boating at the marinas of Bay Lake.

One of our favorite things is taking the whole family out on a Sea Raycer. It's a great time. You can and speed over to Seven Seas Lagoon and see the Magic Kingdom up close, you can check out the old River Country and Discover Island (both closed). Great guided fishing experiences are also available.

Check it out.

Bay Lake

The Disney World Bay Lake is a 450 acre, natural lake located east of the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower.

Bay Lake can be accessed from the Contemporary Resort, the Wilderness Lodge and Villas, Bay Lake Tower Resort, and Fort Wilderness.

There is an island in the middle of Disney World Bay Lake. It's called Discovery Island or Treasure Island. It was originally a place to view exotic animals. It was closed in 1999. Rumors abound about the fate of this prime real estate. Stay tuned.

Fishing on Bay Lake

There are several fishing experiences available on Disney World Bay Lake. Guided Bass Fishing Excursions, Bass Nitro Fishing Excursions and Junior Fishing Excursions and even Cane Pole Fishing are available for purchase. Prices start at $4.00 for 30 minutes.

Boating on Bay Lake

Little boats, big boats, fast boats, slow boats, motor boats, muscle powered boats are all available at Disney World Bay Lake.

There are marinas at The Contemporary Resort, the Wilderness Lodge and Villas, and Fort Wilderness. At each of these marinas an assortment of water craft are available for rental. Not all types may be available at each marina.

Some of the boats available are:

  • Sea Raycer - by Sea Ray boats. (Check out Dad's experience with a Sea Raycer)
  • Sailboats
  • Pontoon boats
  • Kayaks
  • Canoes

At the Contemporary Resort Marina, World Water Skiing Champion Sammy Duvall has opened the Sammy Duvall's Water Sports Centre has some more adventurous water sports available.

You can:

  • Water ski
  • Wake board
  • Knee board
  • Tube
  • Parasailing
  • Rent Sea Doo Personal Watercraft

You can make reservations for Sammy Duvall's watercraft online at Sammy's web site.

Interesting fact: When Disney was constructing the Disney World Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon it drained Bay Lake if found that there was perfect white sand at the bottom of the lake. The sand was use to create beaches for the Contemporary Resort and the Polynesian Resort.

Dad's Bottom Line

Bay Lake is a great place for a nice boat ride on a Sea Raycer or just a family outing at the beach.

Reckless Drivers

Recently, the Walt Disney World, Bay Lake marinas and all of the other marinas have instituted a policy of requiring a valid drivers license to drive Sea Raycer's.

This is in response to numerous accidents by younger drivers.

Ya'all be careful!
