A car at Disney World

Walk

Yes, you can comfortably walk from the Disney World Contemporary Resort to the Magic Kingdom. It's great. It's not a real long walk, however, at the end of a long day on your feet, you might want to grab the monorail and rest the tootsies.

Disney World Monorail

The monorail track runs right through the Grand Canyon Concourse. Right smack dab through the hotel. The Resort loop stops and the Express loop doesn't. If you want to take the monorail to the Magic Kingdom, it will take you about 20 minutes. The resort monorail leaves the Disney World Contemporary Resort and goes to the Transportation and Ticket Center (where you can change to the Epcot loop) and then on to the Polynesian Resort and the Grand Floridian Resort.

Launches (boats)

One of the great ways to get from the Contemporary to the Magic Kingdom is to ride the launch (boat). These boats will hold about 20 guests and dock right in front of the Magic Kingdom. The launch is a reminder of better days, and is a really relaxing way to get to the park.

Luxury Motor Coach (bus)

Disney has about a billion buses. They shuffle millions of guests around to the theme parks and to the water parks and to Downtown Disney. From the Disney World Contemporary Resort you can get to Disney Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon, and Downtown Disney. (Notice Epcot is not on the list. You can only get to Epcot on the Monorail or by walking over the the bus terminal at the Magic Kingdom.

Other Resorts

So Dad, how do we get to those other resorts? Good question, thought you'd never ask. The easiest way to get to any of the Disney Resorts that aren't on the monorail is by bus. But ... you have to get on the bus at the Magic Kingdom. So you walk over to the big bus area between the hotel and the Magic Kingdom and find the bus for the resort you want to visit.

Golf Courses

Disney does a very interesting thing for resort guests that want to play golf at Disney's 5 golf courses. They pay for your transportation if you come by cab. Just check with Bell Services and they will get you a cab. The course will help you get a cab back to the resort. Disney pays the bill. Nice.

The Airport

Another great program that Disney provides (free of charge) is Disney's Magical Express. Disney will pick you up at the airport, deliver your bag to your room, then take you back to the airport, all for free. Check it out.

You could take a taxi, or a limo, or a shuttle. A limo ride is pretty cool.

About The Hotel

This is one of Uncle Walt's original creations. It and the Polynesian Resort were the only hotels at Disney World for a long time. The rooms in the hotel are some of the largest rooms of any of the Walt Disney World hotels.

It is also home to Chef Mickey's one of the best buffets at Disney World. You can also find a whole lot of water sports over at Sammy Duvals.
