Nanea (Volcano) Pool

Nanea or the volcano pool at Disneys Polynesian Resort
Nanea - Disney's Polynesian Resort

Nanea - the word means tranquil. Hmmm, might not be the best name for a swimming pool, but this one is pretty laid back.

The smoking Volcano that houses the water slides towers over almost everything around. It's over 40 feet tall. It has a water slide inside that's 142 feet long.

Kids love playing in the waterfall that cascades down the side of the volcano. They can listen to island music playing UNDER WATER, and there's even a wet-play area for the little ones.

A nice feature of Nanea is the zero-entry end of the pool. Zero-entry means that you can walk right in to the pool. No steps or jumping are required. (Specialized water wheelchairs are available for those needing assistance.)

The whole family can sit at the pool, in the evening, and watch the fireworks over the castle at the Magic Kingdom either from the side or in the pool. It's a great view.

When your done with the pool, you can climb out of the water, walk over to the beach, and get a tan.

Nanea is one of the best pools at Disney World. Check it out.

One quick note, in the summer time Nanea can be very crowded.

The Quiet Pool

The other pool at Disney's Polynesian Resort is a "quiet" pool. There are no water slides here, no diving boards, no cute fountains... Just a nice quiet place to have a cool drink and relax. (It just so happens that there is a pool bar by the quiet pool.)

There is a swimming lane marked in the center of this round pool to help with lap swimming. The pool has a depth of 8 feet. There is plenty of room for swimming.

The pool is usually not as crowded as the volcano pool and great for an evening swim.

The Marina

Boats, boats and more boats.

The marina at Disney's Polynesian Resort is called the Mikala Canoe Club. It has all shapes, sizes and colors of boats for you to rent (no, there not free). You can rent slow boats, fast boats and you might even find boats with pedals. You can even go fishing.

Boating on Seven Seas Lagoon is a blast with the best view in the whole world (and not just Disney World).

Boats that are usually available include:

For fishing during your DIsney World vacation, check out fishing on Bay Lake.

Bikes are available for rent at Mikala Canoe Club.

The Beach

Sit back and relax as the warm tropical breeze wafts gently across the crystal clear waters of the deep blue ocean...

Well maybe it's not a deep blue ocean, but the beach at Disney's Polynesian Resort is a great place to catch some rays. The white sand beaches go as far as you can see in both directions.

The beach sits between the resort and Seven Seas Lagoon. It was made from sand dredged up when Bay Lake was drained. It's nice white sand like that found at some of the worlds finer beaches.

Running is discouraged as is swimming in Seven Seas Lagoon. This is for health reasons.

Make sure to be on the beach at 9:00 pm for the Electric Water Pageant. A timeless Disney classic.

Dad's Bottom Line

There is so much to do at the Polynesian, if it were anywhere else, you would have a great vacation staying at the hotel. But with all the other entertainment options, this hotel lets you be entertained 24 hours a day. The beach at the Polynesian is the best at Disney World.
