DisneyQuest is the next attraction on the chopping block, according to just about every major news outlet.

This five-story complex in Downtown Disney’s West Side is home to virtual reality games such as CyberSpace Mountain, where you can design and ride your own roller coaster, and Pirates of the Caribbean- Battle for Buccaneer Gold where you can come face to face with other pirate ships in order to capture gold.

Taking its place will be the NBA Experience at Walt Disney World Resort. Announced a few weeks ago by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks, “The NBA Experience at Walt Disney World Resort is going to be a one-of-a-kind destination featuring hands-on activities that put families and guests of all ages right in the middle of NBA game action. You’ll be able to explore inside the world of professional basketball with numerous interactive experiences and enjoy a restaurant and retail store.”

While the space at DisneyQuest will certainly be able to accommodate something of the magnitude of the NBA Experience, it still makes you wonder whether or not this type of attraction really fits in to the new theme of Disney Springs. It is worth mentioning that DisneyQuest was in dire need of a refurbishment or overhaul but it was definitely a venue that appealed to a much larger audience.

Only time will tell if it was a wise move to close DisneyQuest in favor of the NBA Experience. There is no word whether or not the DisneyQuest portion that is currently a part of the Water Park Fun and More Ticket Option will be replaced by something else. For now, you can still experience DisneyQuest until sometime in 2016 (no date has been announced yet).
