March Disney World crowds
In March Disney World crowds start to build with the beginning of the spring break season, but it's still a good time for a Disney World vacation. There is a lot going on in March at Walt Disney World. Spring is a beautiful time of year to visit and March is the "official" start of spring

Spring break at Disney World is less about the parties (like those on the coasts) and more about lots of school children bringing their families to see Mickey. It can be a bit of a zoo.

The Crowd pattern in March
The first week of March, Disney World crowds can be absolutely delightful. (Watch, since Dad suggests this, the first week of March will be packed. The power of Dad...) This means not very many people will be at the parks, there will be short lines, dinner reservations will be easy to get, everything you hope for at Disney World.
But then...
Spring break crowds start arriving around the middle of the month. The weather is beautiful, the kids get out of school starting in March, Disney World crowds start building to moderate and sometimes heavy. But it's still a great time to visit Walt Disney World.

Dad's Crowd Calendar Disclaimer
This calendar is based on historical facts, as I know them today. The Walt Disney World Resort is an ever-changing environment and you might find things significantly different from below.
(There, Mr. Dad's lawyer, are you happy?) |
Here's the guide to the colors used in the March Disney World crowds calendar.
- Light - the green color - no waiting in most lines
- Moderate - the blue color - short wait in all lines, 30 minutes on the big rides
- Heavy - the yellow color - 30 minute wait on all rides, 1-2 hours on the big rides, must arrive at least 30 minutes prior to shows
- Could go either way - the orange color - Could be heavy, could be wall-to-wall, or somewhere in between.
- Wall-to-Wall - that leaves red - 1 hour + waits on rides not unusual. 2-3 hours for the big rides. Even 30 + minute waits for "fast" food.

For More Information
We're all looking for more information about Disney World especially when it comes to March Disney World crowds. When I'm looking for information about expected crowds at each of the parks, or even when I want to know what the numbers were in the past, I go to Touringplans.com, (I hope that didn't sound too much like a commercial.)
The team at Touringplans wrote the book (The Unofficial Guide Walt Disney World) on crowds at Disney World. They have teams of researchers that visit the parks daily to verify what crowd levels are. If you subscribe to Touringplans, you get access to all this information and to their "Lines" app which tells you how long the lines are at all the rides at Disney World. It's cool.
