Mickey's Philharmagic

Mickey's Philharmagic is a little out of place in Fantasyland. It's not one of Uncle Walt's creations. But it does fit right in with Uncle Walt's philosophy. Use techonology and great stories to wow guests. This is a great story.

Donald Duck finds Mickey's magic wand and starts to conduct the orchestra. Things get a little out of hand but the music is great. Finally Mickey comes in and saves the day.

Waiting Area

When guest first walk through the doors they see bright and colorful pictures of musical notes and instruments along the walls. As they continue to walk through the queue guest are greeted by the sound of music from different Disney movies.

As guest walk into the pre show waiting area, they pick up "opera glasses" (which are just yellow 3D glasses) for use while enjoying the show. For your own safety and the safety of others please refrain from wearing the glasses until you are safely inside the theater and are instructed to do so by the host.

The host will remind them that flash photography is not allowed and two move to the ends of the rows. Then the doors open up and guest are ushered to their seats for the show to start. (Yeah, like this ever happens.)

The Show

Goofy opens the curtains and Mickey says "Donald wake up it's Show Time" and the fun begins. Donald wakes up the orchestra and they proceed to play their way through most of Disney's hit movies.

Movies that are highlighted,

  • Beauty and the Beast
  • Fantasia
  • The Little Mermaid
  • The Lion KIng
  • Peter Pan
  • Aladdin
  • Mickey Mouse Show

During the show you will not only do you see the movie in 3-D you will smell apple pie, feel the wind as you fly on the carpet, and get water splashed on you. It's all part of a total experience.

The flute that keeps playing the Mickey Mouse theme is great.

History

Donald in trouble at Mickey's Philharmagic

The attraction opened in Fantasyland on October 3, 2003. It took Disney imagineers and animators over three years to complete the ride. This included taking characters from older films and updating them to computer graphic animation. There also had to be some new voice overs because some of the original voice actors has since passed away.

Disney World Fun Facts

Here are some fun facts about the show

  • The 150 foot screen the movie is seen on, is one of the biggest of its kind.
  • Many of the Disney movie characters were transformed from their original animation into the computer age for this attraction.
  • The glasses used to enjoy the show are called, strangely enough, Opera glasses.
  • This attraction indulges all of the senses not only sight and sound but smell as well.
  • This attraction used to host the Mickey Mouse Revue.

Dad's Bottom Line

Dad's not real fond of 3D glasses. But the show is a great. Disney imagineering did a great job making connecting all of the great Disney movies with the newer soon to be Disney classics.

Donald Duck is his usual get into trouble self, and as usual, Mickey comes around to clean up the mess.

Uncle Walt always liked Mickey best.
