New technology restricts use of the refillable mugs at Disney World resorts
by Dad
One of Dad's favorite things about staying at a Disney World resort is the refillable mugs. These things are cool. You buy one when you arrive, and every morning, noon and night you can refill them.
Refillable Mugs at the Disney World Resorts |

For years, the refillable mugs at Disney World Resorts have been a problem. The mugs were only to be used during the visit in which they were purchased. That was the rules, but Disney didn't have any mug police, so lots of people brought old mugs from previous trips and used them on subsequent trips.
(One time I even saw a All Star Sports mug at the Polynesian Resort.
Now all that's about to come to a screeching halt. This week Disney started testing some really cool mugs that have a chip in them which will deactivate the dispensers after a certain length of time. So, if you try to use an old mug, all you will be able to get is water.
How cool is this. The future is here.

Dad's Bottom Line
More and more Disney is using this new "RFID" technology to track what we do at the parks. While I appreciate Disney trying to keep people from stealing from them, some of the plans for the new tracking technology worries me. I'm fine with a chip in my refillable mug as long as when I put it under the spigot, my drink comes out.
