Finally a Disney Guide with Dad-a-tude

Pepper Market

Pepper Market at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort is the most interesting food court in all of Disney World. (Kinda like the old Chinese curse - May you live in interesting times.) I'm not really sure if this is a food court or a sit-down take-out restaurant. (Yes, I did mean to say, sit-down take-out restaurant. Think about it.)

The first thing you'll notice about this area is that it is big, airy and beautiful. It's decorated like an open-air market like you would see in Mexico or in the Southwestern US. (Old Town Albuquerque comes to mind.) Disney excels at themeing and this is no exception. You'll probably find yourself looking for a Marachi band strolling and playing while you eat. (Hey, Disney, you hear that? Remember, you heard it here first.)

There are 9 stations (some are called kitchens) where you can get food or drinks. Each station has a different specialty. The stations are the Mexican Kitchen, Stir-Fry Kitchen, American Grill, Pasta Kitchen, Pizza Kitchen, Bakery Kitchen, Kids Station, Espresso Station, and the Beverage Station.

How things work at Pepper Market

I don't know if this really qualifies for a food court. Here's what to expect. When you arrive, you will be escorted to a table and each guest is given a "bingo" looking card. You take these cards to the stations or kitchens and order your food. The server will explain to you what's available at each of the stations and take your drink orders.

Next, you take your "bingo" card and grab a tray and start filling it up. While you are selecting your food, your server will be setting your table with real silverware and dispensing drinks. When you select something at one of the stations your "bingo" card will be stamped.

You take your tray back to your seat and eat (Dad's favorite part). When you are finished eating, you take your "bingo" cards to the register and pay for your meal.

NOTE: If I haven't mentioned this yet, there will be a 10% surcharge added to your bill. It's supposed to be a tip for your server. But, you might ask, what if I don't want to tip my server because of poor service? Too bad. You get charged anyway. Well, then, what if I want to leave more than 10%? That you can do. But just remember, 10% is going to be added to your bill if you eat in Pepper Market. (Items to go will not be charged 10%.)

Disney Restaurant odds and ends

This restaurant is considered a Counter Service Restauarant for the Disney Dining Plan.

Advanced Dining Reservations are not accepted here.

All Disney Restaurants are non-smoking.

Dad's Bottom Line

I stay confused on this one. Is it a sit down restaurant or a food court? Why do I have to pay 10%? Is that the tip for the server? Should I tip the server? What's the meaning of life?

I'm not a fan of the Pepper Market because of the automatic tip or service charge or whatever it is. It's the one of the reasons I don't recommend the Coronado Springs Resort.
