Star Wars Weekend

Star Wars Weekend comes to Disney Hollywood Studios every year. It's a natural combination. Star Tours is one of the most popular rides at the Studios. It opened just a few months after the park did in 1989. The Festival has been held every year since 1997 (except for 2002).

Perhaps I should mention right now, Star Wars (the original) is Dad's all time favorite movie.

Who, What, When

Star Wars Weekends happen on the weekends (duh) Friday, Saturday and Sunday in May and June. It is not a specially ticketed event (like the parties at the Magic Kingdom) and is open to the general public. Characters from all of the Star Wars movies are there including the actual actors that played some of the parts. Each weekend different headliner actors are featured in a Star Wars Celebrity Motorcade through Disney Hollywood Studios.

The 2015 dates for the weekend are

  • May 15-17
  • May 22-24
  • May 29-31
  • June 5-7
  • June 12-14

That's right there are 5 Weekends again this year.

  • Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett in the original movies)
  • Daniel Logan (Boba Fett in the new movies)

Big crowds. Yep, Big, Big Crowds. A lot of the crowds will look like characters out of the movies. Yes, on these days, Disney allows costumes in the park. Lots of little girls will be dressed up like the Princess Leia.

Lots of other characters you see around the park may be the real thing, or may be someone in a costume. You'll see Storm Troopers, Jawas, Robots, and different aliens from each of the movies. (I'm waiting to see one of those big bug like guys flying around.)

You will also see Disney Characters in Star Wars costumes. Mickey will be Luke, Goofy will be Darth Vader, Minnie will be Princess Leia.

During the day there are character encounters around the park. Around noon, there is the motorcade and celebrity welcome. All day long there are special shows on the events stage which is located next to the ride and in the Premiere Theater behind MuppetVision.

Dad's Bottom Line

If you like Star Wars, the original or even the new movies, you will love this event. If you don't like Star Wars, I don't know what to think about you, but you'll probably want to avoid Disney Hollywood Studios on the weekends in May and June. Look for Dad, he'll probably be dressed like a Wookie.
