Universal Studio question

Universal Studio question

by Todd
(Brownsburg, Indiana)

I’ve waited until the dark of the night to ask this question in case this is a taboo topic on this site. I ask the following question because the site states that "Dad knows everything”???

We have 9 days booked for mid-November at Disney this year. What we thought we may do, depending on Dad’s answer – is take one day and head over to Universal Studios to see the Harry Potter Adventure.

We are flying in on a Friday and thought we would go to Universal on Saturday.

Here are the questions;

1. How easy is it to get from Disney to Universal?
2. How expensive is it to get there and back?
3. Is it worth going to Universal for just one day (Saturday)?
4. Is it worth giving up 1 of 9 days at Disney to go to Universal?
5. Should we make the universal trip an all together separate vacation at another time – we are looking for somewhere to go this June?

We just don’t know too many people that have gone to Universal. We love our Disney trips and would never give them up. We know that our 9 day November trip at Disney is going to be a great but if we decide to go to Universal this summer - how many days is good for Universal? Is June at Universal just like June at Disney – insane??? Is there a Universal Studio Dad’s site out there????

Dad's in broad daylight Answer

Todd,

Good to hear from you again. Thanks for the big vote of confidence "Dad knows everything". And while it's true that Dad does indeed know everything (hush, Mrs. Mom), the website only says that "Dad knows Disney". But actually Dad does know more than just Disney so on to your dark of night Universal Studios questions.
1. How easy is it to get from Disney to Universal? I've got two answers for this one. The first one is, you can't get there from here. While that's not technically true, you are not going to be able to walk out of your Disney World resort and jump on a bus to Universal. It's easy to get from Disney World to Universal you are willing to pay for it.

2. How expensive is it to get there and back?

You can rent a taxi, a limo or even get your own car at Disney World. A taxi will cost you between $50 and $70 each way depending on which resort your at. (Taxi's charge by the quarter mile, so the farther from the main gate the more you'll pay.) Limos will cost around $75 to $100. Your can actually rent a car on Disney property and return it there. There are 2 National/Alamo car rental counters at Disney World. (One at the Car Care Center and one at the Dolphin Hotel.) It's about a 30 minute drive depending on traffic.

3. Is it worth going to Universal for just one day (Saturday)? (Sorry for this Uncle Walt.) Yes, it's worth going to Universal for just one day, even if you only go to one of the parks. Each park (if you don't have to stand in line for 4 hours waiting to get into the Harry Potter ride) only takes one day to complete.

Universal has some wonderful rides. Men in Black is our favorite ride in all of Orlando. But, we still prefer Disney World. I hear people raving all the time about how Universal is going to put Disney out of business because of their 4 great rides. (In 2 parks.) Yes, they have a few great rides (when they work), but Disney World is vastly better.

4. Is it worth giving up 1 of 9 days at Disney to go to Universal? See Dad's Bottom Line.

5. Should we make the universal trip an all together separate vacation at another time – we are looking for somewhere to go this June? That might be a good idea. I think Universal is a two or three day destination. No more. So ...

Dad's Bottom Line

The only thing Universal has that is better than Disney is the front of the line pass for guests at the Universal hotels. Front of the line is great. I wouldn't go back to Universal without it. So, (forgive me Uncle Walt)

I would suggest a stand alone trip to Universal where you stay at one of their resorts, or make reservations at Universal for the first 2 nights of your 9 day trip. Don't try to go back and forth unless you have your own car.

Now about the Dad's Guide to Universal Studios Orlando ... All I can say is ... when pigs ... (not really) I don't have enough hours in a day to finish this site, maybe after I retire I'll try to be the king of Orlando or something. Synchronize your watches, in just ...

Sacrifice One day
by: Russell

I would recommend put Universal as a separate trip. You can do all of it in 2 days or All the good stuff in one day. (That's if Jaws is working, lol) Don't make Universal the trip I would suggest it be part of your trip the next time your in FL. While you are there however sacrifice one day as a change of pace from Disney. They serve beer there!!
