Universal Studios Orlando is doing something right. The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that attendance at Universal was up around 68% in the first quarter of 2011. Yep, 68%. (Disney reported small gains in park attendance.) Link to story about Universal Studios attendance.

This is a big deal for Universal. The opening of Harry Potter World in Islands of Adventure is a rousing success. Disney missed the boat on this one. Next years opening of Fantasyland should help even the score, but for now Universal is the hot ticket.

OK, reality check. Even with the 68% increase, the combined totals of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure will still be well behind the Magic Kingdom and Epcot and maybe even Disney Hollywood Studios. The combined totals. Still a 68% jump is really big.
