Avoiding a resort during a marathon weekend

by Kirsten
(Easton, MD)

“We are planning a trip to WDW for January 7 – 15, 2020. I’m aware that the weekend that we are there is a marathon weekend. We are planning on spending that Saturday at our resort. Are there any deluxe resorts we should avoid staying at?”

Not a Problem

Marathon Weekend is a lot of fun. You’ll find, for the most part, that the parks aren’t all that busy (except the Magic Kingdom on Monday). Plus it’s fun to see all the runners with their medals walking around.

As to the Deluxe Hotels, the EPCOT Hotels (Boardwalk, Beach and Yacht Club) might fill up early, but all the rest should be fairly normal. A lot of the runners are trying to save money and tend toward the Value and Moderate Resorts.

January is a Great Time to Visit

We have really enjoyed our January visits. It can get a little chilly, but overall the weather is nice, the crowds are low and it’s a great time to be at Walt Disney World.

Be sure to get in touch with my partners at Destinations to Travel. They can help and have several agents that routinely run the marathon and know the “secrets”.

Dad’s Bottom Line

I think you’ll find plenty of rooms available at all the hotels. You are going to have a blast.
