Awaken Summer 2016 at Disney World!

by Stephanie Shuster

The Awaken Summer discount promotion has been around for a while now, but today Disney made some major announcements about what we can expect to actually take shape this summer at the resort and it sounds awesome! Where to begin?

Frozen Ever After

After being shuttered for more than a year, Norway’s fan favorite attraction Maelstrom will re-open this June as a totally new experience – Frozen Ever After! We expect this will be a huge hit with kids and adult Frozen fans alike. Plus, you’ll have the chance to visit Anna and Elsa in their Royal Summerhaus. Epcot’s World Showcase just got a lot “cooler.”

Over on the Future World side of Epcot, The Land Pavilion is about to get buy again! Soarin’ is rumored to re-open sometime between June and July and will feature a third theater (increasing capacity for the popular attraction by 50%), a new projection system, a new film, and all new scents. Soarin’ Around the World will replace the previous version (shot entirely in California) with global scenes from places like China, Australia, and Europe. No word on if the iconic soundtrack will be replaced.

Over in The Seas Pavilion, Crush will be welcoming some new friends who are swimming on over from Finding Dory! It’s a fun twist to a great interactive show.

Animal Kingdom at NIGHT

While Rivers of Light has been delayed, that doesn’t mean that nighttime fun at Animal Kingdom is put on hold! New signature dining experience Tiffins is expected to open on Memorial Day weekend. Guest will also be able to enjoy extended hours, a Jungle Book show, Kilimanjaro Safaris after dark, and favorite attractions like Expedition Everest and Kali River Rapids – in the dark! Harambe Wildlife Parti and Discovery Island Carnivale add to the entertainment offerings. Plus, see the Tree of Life awaken with special effects and projections after dark.

Toy Story Midway Mania

Arguably the most popular attraction at WDW, Toy Story Midway Mania will be increasing it’s capacity as of Memorial Day weekend with the addition for a third track that’s been under construction for months. This will help allow more guests to ride with a shorter wait! This is the first step in the Toy Story Land expansion, which is expected to open in a few years and will feature 2 new family attractions: Slinky Dog Dash and Alien Swirling Saucers.

Star Wars

The Force is strong at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! In the past few months, we’ve seen the addition of Star Wars Launch Bay, March of the First Order Stormtroopers, A Galaxy Far Far Away stage show, meet and greets with Chewbacca and Kylo Ren, a re-imagined Jedi Training experience, a new scene in Star Wars, and more merch than you can shake a stick at. But this summer, the nightly fireworks show – Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular – will get an upgrade including more fireworks, projections, and a longer run-time. We can’t wait!
