Can a visitor park at our hotel?

“I am a DVC Member and will be staying at one of the resorts. A relative would like to visit Disney World for a couple of days as he just moved to the area. Can he park at the resort I’m staying at and take the bus transportation with us? If yes, is there a charge?”

It’s Free If…

Let’s go with the easy question first. Will it cost anything? No. If they are able to park, as long as they don’t stay overnight, it will be free. Disney hotels only charge for parking overnight. Oh, and all Disney transportation once onsite is free and open to the public.

Might Be A Problem, If…

The easy answer to the first question is yes, your friends can come and join you for a day or two, but…

Lately, some of the hotels have started to really scrutinize those trying to park at the resorts. If you don’t have a reservation (hotel or dining) you might be turned away. This has come from so many people parking at the resorts to avoid paying for parking. It’s mostly at the monorail hotels and the EPCOT hotels this happens.

Dad’s Bottom Line

Will your friends get hassled? Maybe. Will they be turned away? Probably not. As long as they have your name and room number they will probably be allowed to park. Probably. Worst case, they’ll have to go to a park parking lot and meet you in the parks.

Last December we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and my best friend who is a FL resident came to visit, she had no problem getting through security and there was no charge to park in the lot

If your guest is staying with you and you are a DVC member, their car may be covered as well. Sometimes we come down in two cars because we are traveling at different times. Can you add someone’s name to your reservation? Then it should be accepted. They can drop your name when driving thru security and that they are staying with you which is basically true. All guests/reservations should be allowed more than one car at a time to park.

We stay at a Disney resort a few times a year. My father is local, about an hour and a half away. He comes to see us every visit and has never had a problem. He gives them my name and room number and they’ve never hesitated to let him in.

As a matter of fact we joke about how lax it is. Half the time they don’t even ask for a name or room number. He says I’m here to see my daughters family and they let him in. Sometimes they’ll make him flash his drivers license but even then they just glance at it and waive him through. He has ridden the bus with us to the parks and just left his car at the resort. Now we typically stay at value or moderate resorts. My guess is the deluxe resorts are probably not as easy to get into.

I have often parked in the garages at Disney Springs and taken the bus to other resorts. You can even take a bus to one of the resorts on the monorail loop and hop to another resort that way.
