I am planning my first Disney trip with a few friends of mine, and we are having some trouble deciding which dates to choose. I am a teacher, so I wouldn’t be able to go during the school year. We were thinking the best dates for our schedules would be either the week between Christmas and New Year’s or any time between June 4 and mid August.
I know the weather will probably be more pleasant in December, but I’m worried about the heavy crowds I’ve heard about during that time. Do you have any suggestions on when would be the best time for us to go? This is the first Disney trip for most of us, and I want to make sure we have the best experience possible.
Thank you so much for your help! Grace"

Grace, howdy. This is going to be tough for me, because…
OK, let’s talk about this. The week between Christmas and New Years is the busiest, craziest, most insane time to go to WDW all year. The parks will literally close to new guests at 10 am on some days.
I think I might have mentioned I love Christmas at WDW and think everyone should experience it, but not Christmas week if you can avoid it. If you can slip in the week before or the week after OK, but not Christmas week. Even Thanksgiving week is better than Christmas week. Lots better. (I hate not being able to recommend Christmas.)
That brings me to summer. Summer is a much better time crowd wise to visit Walt Disney World. Even the busiest week of the summer is about half as busy as Christmas week. OK, maybe not half, but a whole lot less. If it were me I’d get on a plane on June 4th. That’s going to be the lowest crowds and the coolest weather (statistically) and probably the least expensive.
I love Christmas at WDW. It’s my favorite time of the year to visit, but I can’t recommend Christmas week. Thanksgiving, OK. The best week I could recommend is that week in June right after school gets out.
