We’ll be going to Disney world 10/30-11/6/2019. I’m wondering when you think the Marathon will be next year? I saw pictures and videos of the weekend it happened this year and the crowds were insane! I’m trying to decide should I switch the week we’re going.

Thank you!

I know this

The Wine and Dine Half Marathon for 2019 will be October 31st to November 3rd.

I don’t think the crowds will be all that bad. Typically marathon weekends aren’t crazy crowds. That’s why the marathons are on those weekends because the crowds are lower and Disney is trying to fill the hotels and the parks.

Also that’s going to be just a couple of weeks before Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens and I think a lot of people will be waiting for that.

Pictures don’t always tell the whole story

Pictures and videos and reports don’t always give a good picture. I track crowds pretty closely and sometimes what I hear from reports and see in pictures doesn’t match up with what I hear from on the ground.

From the reports I’ve heard, and looking at TouringPlans historical crowd tracker, the crowds over this years Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend were really low. 1 and 2 out of 10.

That’s pretty typical. Marathon crowds usually don’t affect the parks much. A little at times but not much. It sounds pretty impressive that 15,000 people or so do the half marathon. That’s a lot of people, but when it comes to the parks, it’s not all that much. Even if all of those were a family of 4 and they all went to the Magic Kingdom at the same time it would only make an average day.

I don’t know if you’ll find a better weekend crowd wise to visit especially in November 2019.

Halloween and Christmas

The other good thing about going that week is you might get to see the transition from Halloween to Christmas. This year the Magic Kingdom transitioned from Halloween to Christmas on November 1st. The last Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was October 31st and the next morning there were Christmas decorations up. It’s a really impressive transition. All the parks start decorating that week. It’s really cool. I’m a big fan of Christmas at Disney World.

Dad’s Bottom Line

The bottom line is I think that weekend will be just fine. I don’t think you’ll find a much better choice in October, November or December. Maybe September.
