Crowds in November 2020

“Hello,
I am looking to go to Disney World possibly the week before Thanksgiving in 2020 from Sunday November 15 to Sunday November 22. I was just wondering when Thanksgiving crowds usually start? Will I experience heavy Thanksgiving crowds on Saturday November 21? We would leave the morning of Sunday November 22 so that Sunday crowds would not matter.

I would also be able to alter my trip a bit to go from Saturday November 14-Saturday November 21, but then will I experience heavy crowds on the 14 and 15th because of Veterans day on November 11? Thanks for your advice.”

It’s a Good Time to Go

Andrea,

I am a big fan of that week between Veterans Day and Thanksgiving week. If there is a full week, it’s usually the lowest crowd week of the whole Christmas season.

Dad's November 2020 Crowd Calendar

Here’s my November 2020 crowd calendar. As you can see it looks pretty good for your trip. Historically, the Thanksgiving crowds do start arriving on Saturday before Thanksgiving, but they don’t get bad until Sunday.

With Veterans Day being on Wednesday in 2020, I don’t expect there will be a big crowd push. Usually, there are only big crowds with Veterans Day when it’s in conjunction with a weekend. When it’s mid-week, crowds don’t usually bump up much.

The Perfect Storm

So the week before Thanksgiving in 2020 looks like the perfect storm for avoiding crowds. Veterans Day crowds will be small and if typical patterns hold, the Thanksgiving crowds won’t hit until Sunday.

CHRISTMAS!!!!

Oh, and lest I forget, it’s going to be CHRISTMAS at Walt Disney World while you are there. The Christmas season will be in mostly full swing. You might even catch the last couple of days of the Food and Wine Festival. The Festival of the Holidays should get underway while you are there too.

There’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the hotels will be all dolled up, the parks will be all dolled up, Disney Springs will probably have the Christmas Tree Trail and lots more. Christmas at Disney World is the biggest event of the whole year.

Dad’s Bottom Line

Andrea, you have chosen wisely. I wouldn’t change a thing. That week should be the best week of the whole Christmas season.
