Dad's Guide turns 10!
On September 1, 2008, Dad's Guide to WDW made it's first appearance on the internet.
Not too bad for a first effort right?
That first day, one person came to visit the site. Dad's Guide to WDW was born. I think we had 5 pages up for people to read. By the end of the first year we were getting a whopping 175 visitors a day. Which was really good growth back in those days.
After a couple of years partnered with a website builder to vastly improve our look...
Looks better, right?
A couple of years later, we revamped again. I wanted to add some blue (Dad likes blue).
Getting better and better
And everyone knows what it looks like today...
Today it looks really good.
We're always tweaking the website to make things looks better and work better.
While we got off to kind of a slow start the first year, a lot of people have come to Dad's Guide through the years. In fact, we just passed 6.5 MILLION people who have visited Dad's Guide. Wow. 6,500,000 unique visits. That's a lot of people.
It's a little humbling, but a whole lot of fun.
Speaking of growth, from those 5 pages on day 1 Dad's Guide has grown into a monster. (Maybe not a monster, but it's grown a lot.) Today we have over 2,000 pages including over 1,200 questions that Dad has answered through the years.
We have pages about the parks, restaurants, hotels, rides, crowds, and lots more. In fact our crowd pages are our most popular.
It's really hard to believe what's happened in Social Media since 2008. In fact, I don't think Social Media was really a thing in 2008. Facebook and Twitter were just getting started.
I think it was around the beginning of 2011 when I started the Dad's Guide Facebook page. Boy did we have a lot of fun on Facebook. Through the years, we've posted probably over 10,000 images to Facebook (I tried to scroll through them all. After an hour I gave up.)
We're on Twitter
and any other Social Media platform we can find. I almost forgot Instagram. Dad kills it on Instagram
I've really had a lot of fun doing Facebook Live over the last few years. Lunch with Dad was a blast. The new party format is even more fun.
Speaking of parties...
Time to sing
Hey, it's a birthday. Someone needs to sing and Dad sings good!
So, come on... Sing with me!
"Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Dad's Guide to WDW. Happy birthday to you!
Now wasn't that fun?
Oh, you want to have a party? OK, we can do that.
Yes, we're going to have a BIG PARTY.
Monday night over on Dad's Facebook Page, we're going to have some fun with Dad's BIG
10th Birthday Party. There will be fun, singing, prizes and who knows what else.
Join Dad at Eight o'clock Eastern over on Dad's Facebook page.
Don't miss this.
The BIG Announcement
Oh, and we've got a really big announcement on Monday you won't want to miss. REALLY BIG. HUMONGOUS! ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE! I couldn't believe it when I first heard about it. You're going to be blown away.
Trust me. You don't want to miss the party. The prizes will be flowing, the music will be loud and Dad will be in fine form. It will be AWESOME and that announcement will be mind blowing!
There's more. Today, as part of our 10 year celebration today we are launching a Dad's Guide Store. Yes, a store of Dad's Guide branded clothes and stuff. You've got to see this...
I save the best for last. I sometimes make it seem like I do everything, but I'm not Superman (I am but don't tell anyone). I do have a great staff that helps me out with all my projects. I would be very remiss if I didn't mention the great people that keep me going and help make Dad's Guide what it is today.
A very special thanks to my number one assistant Stephanie, who truly keeps all the wheels turning. Also, I want to thank, Tatjana, Kim, Stefanie, Danny, and Ashley who are now or have been a great help to me.
While I'm thanking people, I should mention the Photo Team. One of our hallmarks is our great photos and without Andy, Brett, Laurie, Cliff, Judd, Michael, Matthew, Wayne, and Rich and Courtney, Dad's Guide would not be what it is today.
Thank you all!
Dad's Bottom Line
It's hard to believe how far Dad's Guide has come of the last 10 years. I want to sincerely thank all of you for being such great followers. We've grown a lot together through the years, and I can't wait for the next 10 years.
