Dad’s The Happiest Answer

Karen, Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth. (You thought that was Disney World, right? WDW is The Most Magical Place on Earth! But back to your question…). Dad has real fond memories of visiting Disneyland as a young boy, but it was only last year that I returned to Anahiem. I had a great time, and you will too. Here’s where you should start:

Like I said, I spend most of my time at WDW, but last year I went to the D23 Expo and stopped in at Disneyland for a few days with Mrs. Mom after the work was all done. It was great. Most importantly, I answered the age old question:how different is Disneyland from Disney World?

So, which one do you think Dad prefers?

If you want to read all about my experiences, at Disneyland, check out the Dad Goes to Disneyland mini series. While I did have a few complaints overall I had a great time.

A few members of my team were there too! Danny was pretty much a Disneyland newbie, but had a great time exploring, and loved how much the park is a reflection of Uncle Walt. Stephanie was our veteran – she grew up on the West Coast and has spent a lot of time there. She even had something to say about some really great Disneyland eats.

All of that being said, I found the resources for planning a Disneyland trip were not as abundant as the same advice for Disney World. It is a much smaller resort with fewer parks and hotels. It’s got a lot of local traffiic, which means evenings and weekends are especially busy. I’ve got three things I want to suggest for you:

If you’ve been reading Dad’s site for a while, you know how much I love They have the same crowd calendars and touring plans available for Disneyland as they do for WDW, which is a great resource.

My friend Gavin Doyle has recently released a Step-By-Step Disneyland Planning Guide which has loads of information to help you plan every aspect of your trip – how to get there, where to stay, what tickets to buy, where to eat, and also has lots of ideas for how to save money on your trip.

Finally, you know Dad’s favorite WDW travel agents? Well they actually work on Disneyland trips too! They helps me last year and everything was a breeze. GiveDestinations to Travel a shout, you won’t be sorry!

And if you are looking for a little something to jump start your Disneyland dreams, pick up a Disneyland Secrets calendar – there’s a big sale on right now! The photos are by the same photographers who work on Dad’s blog, so you know it’s going to be good. Trust me.

Dad's Bottom Line

Karen, I can pretty much guarantee you’ll have the happiest vacation ever at Disneyland – have a magical trip!
