From your experience and knowledge what are the crowds like the first week of January after New Years? We are thinking of going 2011 and looking at spending Dec 30-January 7 at Walt Disney World … What will the Disney World crowds after New Years be like?
Dad has some first hand experience Answer
Yep, Dad’s got this one nailed. Just a couple of years ago, we arrived in beautiful (cold, cloudy and miserable) Orlando Florida on January 1. (See Dad’s Disney Crowds after New Years experience)
What you will find, on December 30, 31 and January 1 crowds will be outrageous. The Magic Kingdom will probably close to incoming guests a couple of times during those days. You will see huge crowds in all of the parks. Long lines will be the norm for even the slowest ride.
Then, every day after January 1, crowds will get noticeably smaller. Yes, you will be able to see the difference every day. Finally by Wednesday, the crowds will be incredibly small. You’ll be able to walk on to most rides.
So, for the first couple of days, enjoy the extras Disney offers for the holidays. The extra hours, the big shows (especially the evening activities in the Magic Kingdom), and the decorations. Then as the crowds diminish you can enjoy the rides with no lines.
Hope you have a great trip.
