“Hi Dad,

I’m taking my two kids, their significant others, my granddaughter and wife to Disney World in late June. I’ve booked a Chip ‘n’ Dale Harvest Feast Breakfast at Garden Grill for 8:15am on Sunday, June 23rd. With rope drop at 9am.

My question is can we go line up for Soarin’ after breakfast before rope drop so we are one of the first in line and save the Fast Pass for Frozen or will they force us back out of the park?”

If You’re Finished

Grandpa Tim,

This sounds like fun. Can I come along? I haven’t been to Garden Grill yet and I think it would be cool.

Let’s talk about breakfast at Garden Grill or any Table Service restaurant. A Table Service meal takes time. Even the buffets.

If you are seated at right away (not a given, there’s always a chance of a few minute delay), it will be a couple of minutes before your server shows up and takes drink orders. Then a few more minutes until the drinks are delivered. Then time to take orders for food.

Ten to twenty minutes to prepare the food. Time to eat. For the Garden Grill, time to get a second round of food. Time to eat more. Get the check. Pay the check. And then you can leave.

All of that normally takes about an hour at most Table Service restaurants.

I will say at Garden Grill with an early breakfast, if you let your server know that you are trying to get to Soarin’ early, they’ll help you get out early. Also, you can show up before your 8:15 ADR and you might get seated early.

No Rope Drop

You will not have to go back to the entrance and do rope drop. When you are finished you’ll be able to go downstairs and get in line for Soarin’. Depending on the time of year, you might even get to jump right on before the park officially opens.

If large crowds are predicted, sometimes the park opens early so guests might already be there.

One Thing at a Time

Grandpa, a little advice. Don’t get in too big of a hurry. As I like to say, Stop and Smell the Roses. Sometimes we fall into the feeding frenzy trap of avoiding crowds and miss some of the little things that happen every day at Walt Disney World.

Enjoy breakfast at Garden Grill. It’s a great experience. It’s about the only place to interact with Chip and Dale which is awesome.

The line for Soarin’ is not going to be crazy until later in the day. If you get in line at 8:50 you might end up waiting longer than at 9:05.

As one of my favorite old time songs says “Slow down, you move too fast. You’ve got to make the moment last.”

Destinations to Travel

Dad’s Bottom Line

Sometimes we need to slow down and let the moment last. Yes, you can gulp down your food, hurry, hurry, hurry and be in line for Soarin’ before the park opens. Then wait for the ride to start…

Or, you can eat normally, enjoy Chip and Dale and the other characters. Saunter down to Soarin’ a little after 9 and walk right on.

The early bird sometimes has to wait.
