Fat Tuesday is fun at Walt Disney World

Hey yall! I know yesterday was President’s Day and we discussed how patriotic Disney World is. Today is Tuesday. Many of you are thinking wow Tuesdays are boring. I could not agree with you more. But today is an exceptional Tuesday. It is Fat Tuesday and the end of the Mardi Gras season.

While Mardi Gras is a huge tradition in Louisiana, Walt Disney World has a few interesting events that happen during this time. In Louisiana every night during Mardi Gras is a party filled with beads and parades. I have never been to Louisiana during this time, which is something I am thankful for. Things tend to be a little wild there this time of year.

Never fear Disney does a great job of keeping this time of year very kid friendly and family oriented. No major changes at any of the parks and most of the resorts. Most guests will not see any major changes. Guests staying at the Port Orleans Resort are in for a special treat!

The Port Orleans Resort is themed to look like the French Quarter. True to theme of Louisiana the halls are filled with jazz music, the kitchen cooks up Cajun favorites, and there are parades. This resort is filled with the spirit of Mardi Gras.

Decorators at this resort have really gone the extra mile to make their guests feel like they are in The Big Easy. You can smell the magnolia flowers; pass decorated street signs, antique lampposts, and huge fountains. The Port Orleans Resort lets guest escape into another time and place.

If you are staying at the Port Orleans Resort of Fat Tuesday you are in for a special treat. The staff at the resort put together a parade for the guests. This parade is in the afternoon. So you might catch a quick nap and then go see the parade. Each department decorates a golf cart and makes it into a float.

The floats then go along the route throwing out beads and other special favors. The floats are judge on Most Creative, Best All-Around and Best Themed. Since this is not a major event at WDW just check in at the front desk and they will tell you what time you need to be there for the parade.

See I told you Disney would keep it family oriented while fun. If you are visiting during Fat Tuesday you do not want to miss this special event. Now back to my real job. Yall have a great Fat Tuesday.

  1. Fat Tuesday is actually the last day of the Mardi Gras or Carnival season. It signifies the last day before Lent begins or “Ash Wednesday”. The start of Mardi gras is January 6th, otherwise known as twelfth night, or the twelfth day of Christmas.

House of Blues always has a pretty good band, good southern creole food, and some sort of Mardi Gras revelry on Fat Tuesday.
