We will be there Oct 18-24th, and are wanting to do the party on the 23rd. My biggest concern is RAIN!! Should I wait to purchase tickets until closer to our departure time, so I can see a weather forecast.
You can probably wait a little longer

I just checked for October 23rd and it looks like there are plenty of tickets available for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party that night. So you can probably wait a little longer.
But, you do run a risk any time you wait to buy your party tickets. You never know when they are going to sell out. Not all parties do. Tuesday night (like the one you want to go to) is about the least likely to sell out, but it happens.
As a general rule you should always buy Party tickets as soon as you can. That includes both Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Yes, not all parties sell out. But you’ll be surprised how many random Sunday and Tuesday night’s there are sellouts.
I would recommend about 4 weeks before the party would be the ideal time for most parties. Friday nights, and the first couple and last couple of parties of the season you might want to make that 8 weeks.
Keep going through the rain
I know that rain can be annoying, but it also keeps people out of the park. I’m a big fan of touring during the rain (if it’s not a monsoon).
Our first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, we went on December 18. The last party of the year. Usually a very busy party but not this night.
It rained all night. Not heavy rain, but slow steady, soaking rain. We went to the party anyway. We ponchoed up and soldiered on. Hey, we spent big bucks on the tickets and we weren’t going to waste the money.
We had a great time. Our shoes were soaked, but there weren’t a lot of people in the park (probably less than 5,000). We walked on to most rides including Space Mountain. It was a great night.
The fireworks and parade both still happened.
Dad’s Bottom Line
You can probably wait to buy your MNSSHP tickets, but just know that if there’s a surge in ticket purchases you might miss out.
The chances for rain are always there, but rarely does the rain totally wash out an evening. It can make it uncomfortable, but that’s when everyone else stays away and you get the park to yourself.
