Last minute Disney World trip, which hotel?

by debbie

Ok (long story), this is a very last minute Disney World trip. Which hotel would you recommend for our family of 4, son 8, daughter 11, the last week of January. We do love a nice hotel, but are looking for something reasonably priced being a last minute trip. What is the nicest at about $125ish per night max? I note your Pop Century recommendation, my husband was thinking Plaza in Downtown Disney.

We are only going Sun-Wed (I know, short trip!) This will be our 3rd trip. 1st time was at Port Orleans, last at Old Key West. We are trying to be even more frugal this time. Help!

Dad’s Pop or bust Answer

How are you. Sorry I didn’t get to this yesterday, I was visiting my mother (really).

For a short trip, I really do recommend staying at a Disney owned resort. Why? One reason Extra Magic Hours. If you are only going to around the parks for three days or less, you will want all the extra time you can get.

So, for a last minute Disney World trip which hotel would I recommend? For the money, again I’d recommend the Pop Century. Even though the rooms in the Plaza may be remodeled and the cost may be a bit lower, I still go with the Pop, but I’m a bit biased toward Disney.

I’m not real familiar with the Royal Plaza (I’ve driven by it a couple of hundred times, but never stopped). The reviews on Tripadvisor of the Royal Plaza range from good to bad. If you throw out the highs and the lows, it’s probably an average hotel. It is in a good location. Other than the Hilton, it’s the closest to Disney World.

Dad’s Bottom Line

Hey, what can I say, Dad’s a Disney nut. What do you expect.
