“When does the Magic Kingdom welcome show (the one from the train) start during morning Extra Magic Hours? And what is the best time to get there to get a good view of it?”

It’s all different now

Beth,

About a year ago Disney made a major change to the way the Magic Kingdom opens. They moved the morning welcome show from the Train Station to Cinderella Castle.

Now, guests are allowed to enter the Magic Kingdom about 30 minutes before official opening time. Main Street is open and people can wander around and look at the shops and get a Starbucks.

The new park opening show starts about 5 minutes prior to the official park opening time. The best place to watch the show is right in front of Cinderella Castle.

On morning Extra Magic Hours days the schedule is the same. The opening show happens at 5 minutes before the official opening time.

There are Cast Members at the entrance to Adventureland and Tomorrowland that scan MagicBands and let Disney hotel guests into the park. Everyone else can watch the show and enter the park right at the official opening time.

I would start staking out my place about 15 minutes prior to park opening time, about 10 minutes before the show. You’ll get a good spot at that time. Most people walk up at the last minute to see it.

Dad’s Bottom Line

Beth, now that the opening show is located at Cinderella Castle, it doesn’t matter if there are morning Extra Magic Hours. The opening show will start about 5 minutes prior to park opening time. No need to rush down Main Street to get a spot. You can even walk up at the last minute and find a place to see the show.
