The Main Street Vehicles

Walking right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A. is one of my favorite things to do when I arrive at The Magic Kingdom, but occasionally, I am tempted to navigate my favorite street in a totally different way, by riding the Main Street vehicles.

Consisting of a Fire Engine complete with a Fire Chief as the driver, a horse-drawn trolley, an old-fashioned jitney car or a double-decker omnibus, your one-way ride to or from Cinderella Castle is sure to be charming and make you feel as if you’ve traveled back in time.

I think my favorite of these options is the double-decker omnibus, although it is more rare to see than the others. I really enjoy riding on the very top deck as it goes down the middle of Main Street; you get a great view of the Main Street windows and get to see the detail that goes into the buildings that you otherwise miss from street level.

The other vehicles are fun as well! Especially the fire engine as it honks its way down the street and all the guests have to move out of the way. If you’re lucky, when you ride the trolley, the Dapper Dans will jump onboard and serenade you with their old-fashioned harmony.  It just doesn’t get any better than this!

If you’re not in a hurry, the best times to experience the Main Street vehicles is early in the morning when they are loading in front of the train station in Town Square.  If you can wait for them to arrive, you will have your choice of transportation to choose from.  You’ll want to save your steps for later!  You’ll have to exit at the Castle hub but here you can go off in any direction and start your day!

I recommend the horse drawn trolley in the early morning, because later on, the trolley will be used for the Main Street Trolley Show several times throughout the day.  Most of the vehicles stop running by mid afternoon as well.  You can get more specific times at Guest Services in Town Hall.

So treat yourself to a trip right down the middle of Main Street U.S.A. next time you see the vehicles parked at the Hub or Town Sqare.  It’s the little, less hurried, things like this that you will remember for years to come.  Trust me, you will be glad you did!
