My Phone isn't working with MyDisneyExperience

I've talked to WDW and they've updated the mobile app. My phone doesn't support it anymore. I just bought it last year!! How do I stay connected when I'm in the park?? Very disappointed right now.

Chris, I'm sorry you're having a problem. I know it can be frustrating. Technology can be frustrating. I deal with it all the time. We have all kinds of programs and technology and they're always updating and making changes, and it gets kind of old, but it's not one of the things that's going to make or break your trip. It's really not.
The My Disney World Experience app is great, it's a wonderful thing keeping track of FastPasses, of ADRs, and all the stuff, having the maps right there in your pocket, all of that stuff is really cool, but guess what? It's not essential. Don't tell Disney, but it's really not essential. You can do all of those things without a phone. You don't have to have The MyDisneyExperience app, yes, I'm serious, you really don't.
FastPasses, you can make FastPasses still at the FastPass kiosk. They still have FastPass kiosks all around the park. Guess what's happened when the My Disney Experience app went onto phones? Those kiosks are empty. Nobody goes to the kiosks anymore, so it's pretty easy to go to a kiosk and change a FastPass. I actually did it the last time I was there, just to try it out. It's cool, you can make new FastPasses right there at the kiosk, so you don't need a phone to make FastPasses.
Dining reservations, you can go up to the restaurant, yeah it's a little bit better if you do have a reservation, but it's not essential. Make your dining reservations before you go and you won't have to worry about anything.
Maps. Yes there are maps on the phone. Yes it will tell you where the nearest bathroom is. Guess what? They still have printed maps. You can look at a printed map and see all that stuff.
There's really nothing that you can't do without technology at Disney World. There really is NOTHING you have to have My Disney Experience for. It's cool, it's helpful, but you don't have to have it. A lot of people have a great experience without it.
A few months ago, I wrote a column about technology and Walt Disney World. It was about people that are spending too much time with their technology. It really makes the point about how we have become so engrossed with technology that sometimes we lose the human interaction, the human touch.
Dad's Bottom Line
The bottom line is, yes the technology is nice. Yes, having the phones there and being able to change things right in your hand, being able to find things, being able to look at schedules, that's all nice, well, great, good, fun, but it's not essential. You don't have to have it.
