New Years events at Walt Disney World for 2011

by Peter Lavris

My family and I are going to Disney World to and we are looking for New Years Eve events at Walt Disney World in 2011 to celebrate my daughters 14th birthday. She turns 14 on 01/01/12. We will be at Disney World on 12/28/11 to 01/08/12. Do you know of any fun restaurant or clubs we can take her on New Years Eve? Do they have any New Years parties we can attend? I searched and called but, came up empty handed.

Dad’s sorry, but Answer

New Years Eve is a great time for events at Walt Disney World if … if you like fireworks.

There is a special fireworks show at the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT and Disney Hollywood Studios. The only problem is that just about everyone if Florida will want to join you to watch the shows.

It’s estimated that over 500,000 people will try to see one of the fireworks shows at Walt Disney World on New Years Eve. They start closing the Magic Kingdom at around 100,000 people. (That’s just a guess, the actual number is a closely held secret.)

There will be people crowded around Seven Seas Lagoon trying to see the show over the Magic Kingdom.

By now all of the special restaurants will be booked for the 31st especially since it’s a Saturday night. New Years is a time when you will absolutely have to have an Advanced Dining Reservation and you have to make those 180 days in advance.

Now saying it was May and we were planning it I’d recommend you book a dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table or at one of the restaurants in the World Showcase. But it’s too late for that.

So, what is there to do? I’d suggest a couple of things, first a great way to spend some family time together is mini-golfing. Yes, mini-golfing. It’s a blast. The Disney World mini-golf courses are an event themselves. Winter Summerland is a really cool experience. (Pun intended.) It’s part of Blizzard Beach and is full of Christmas cheer. It’s even cool after dark. Fantasia Gardens is a great place for families that like the movie Fantasia. The movie is all around the course.

One party you might be able to get tickets too is the DisneyQuest New Years Eve Party. It runs from 8:00 pm to 1:00 am. You get to play all of the games at DisneyQuest all night long. For more info – DisneyQuest New Years Eve Party information..

Dad’s Bottom Line

Peter, I’m sorry to be so little help. I might suggest to monorail hop around looking at Christmas Decorations at each of the Disney Hotels and watch the fireworks from the Polynesian Resort.

New Years Eve Night is a nice night for fireworks at Walt Disney World, but it’s not a big night for parties.
