“We are planning to come the day after Thanksgiving for a week based on your crowd calendar. Just say you picked another week in December to come instead. What do us recommend is the best time to come to Disney World during Christmas season?”

I do love Christmas time at Walt Disney World.

Yes, Kim, I just put out the best times to visit Disney in 2018. Since I started doing the best weeks to visit Disney World, my number one week has always been the week after Thanksgiving.

Dad’s 5 Best Weeks to Visit in 2018 page

For 2018, I changed. That’s right. I changed. I changed it up because last year, 2016, there was a little spike in crowds the week after Thanksgiving.

I’m not sure how real the spike was. A lot of people talking about how big the crowds were the week after Thanksgiving. But from some other observations it seems the crowds weren’t quite as big as a lot of people made them out to be.They were a little bigger than they’ve been in the past, but not as crazy as reported.

Anyway, this year, I decided I’d just pick another week. I just wanted to give a little variety. Sometimes I like to throw in a little variety.

For 2018’s best weeks to visit, I chose the week I’m going to be there. The second week in December, December 9th through 15th I think it was. That’s the week I’m going to be there, so hey, everybody if you want to see Dad. That’s the week you should go.

Now is that a better week to go than the week after Thanksgiving? Maybe, maybe not. I expect the crowds are going to be about the same.

Now, I will say that Christmas starts a little later this year, 2017, because the first Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is not until November 9th. It’s a little later this year, Christmas will be starting a little later this year.

So what would be the best week to go? That week after Thanksgiving is still going to be a good week to be there. Anytime from the Sunday after Thanksgiving until about the 20th of December, from Veteran’s Day to the Saturday before Thanksgiving, should be pretty good to visit.

Dad’s Bottom Line

Dad’s Bottom Line, of course anytime you can go to Disney World is a good time to go. If you can go to Walt Disney World during the Christmas season, you should. It’s the best time of the year to visit Disney.

Thank you so much! We last went for the Christmas season about 5 years ago, but my kids don’t remember even though they were 7 and 10! So looking forward to going back! Thanks for the help. Can’t wait to read up on WDW on your site!

Jan 02, 2018 Actual crowds week after Thanksgiving 2017
by: Lisa

Hi Dad,

Just wondering if you have an update on how the actual crowds were the week after Thanksgiving in 2017? I read that the week spiked in 2016, but for 2018 you do predict the week still as light, but have the week of Dec 9th as the best week to visit which is moderate. I’m trying to decide between the week after Thanksgiving 2018 and the first or second weeks in December and am now confused on which to do! Please send your wisdom (or best guess) my way!

Lisa, the crowds were up again this year the week after Thanksgiving but not quite as bad as in 2016. I see that trend continuing.

What does that mean for the 3 weeks you are looking at. It means that the crowd levels for the 3 weeks are pretty much equal. There’s not a lot of difference. I would avoid the week of the Pop Warner Championships if for no other reason than there won’t be an discounts that week. it really doesn’t do a lot to the crowds.

The bottom line is of those 3 weeks, there’s not one that stands out above or below the others crowd wise.
