Off your calender it looks like things won’t be crazy crowd wise but wanted some personal input. =) We have time to go between May 17th to May 23rd. We will actually be in the parks May 18th – 22nd however. I was hoping getting in and out before Memorial Day weekend would help us out. Do you feel lines will be fairly good that week?
Secondly we are looking at Port Orleans – Riverside. Do you have any experience with that resort?

Dad’s one out of two ain’t so bad Answer
Howdy. How are you today? Cold? Me too. This cold front is miserable. (It’s 20 degrees in Oklahoma today and dropping with 30 mile an hour winds. Brrr.)
No, I’m not avoiding your question. I’m just making some nice conversation before I dive in. OK, time to dive in.
As you’ve seen in Dad’s handy-dandy May Crowd Calendar, mid-May is a really good time to visit Walt Disney World. The crowds will be light to moderate all week. You won’t really have any problems with lines, except on the weekends (we’ll talk about that more in a minute.)
I also checked with our friends over at TouringPlans.com, they are also reporting that you can expect light to moderate crowds that week.
What does that mean? It means on most rides you won’t have much of a wait. On the big rides, expect 30 to 50 minutes. Those rides you’ll probably FastPass anyway. Lines really won’t be a big problem.
Also the weather is really nice in mid-May. That’s before the summer heat kicks in. It will be a great time to visit.
Oh, the weekend thing. Yes, the weekends will be busier. The locals like to come to WDW on weekends in May so the crowds are noticeably bigger on the weekends. Also, over in Disney Hollywood Studios you have Star Wars Weekends going on which brings in big crowds to the Studios.
Now about that other thing. The Port Orleans Riverside thing. We’ve haven’t had a chance to stay in the Port Orleans yet. It’s on our to do list. We planned to be there this last Christmas, but it was blacked out from Free Dining so we ended up back at the Pop Century.

The Port Orleans Resort gets good reviews for the most part. The only issue I might bring up is the way the resort is all spread out. I’m not a fan of the Moderate Resorts mainly because of their layouts. I don’t want to have to get on a bus to get to the main building. Other than that the Port Orleans is a pretty great hotel.
You might want to check with my partners over at Destinations to Travel. They do a wonderful job of helping people with choosing the Perfect Resort for a Disney World Vacation.
Dad’s Bottom Line
Mark, you’ll have a great time in May. I would say I’m jealous, but I have a May trip penciled in myself. If you have a car, the Port Orleans is a great choice. If you’re depending on Disney for transportation, you might want to look at options.
