"How soon can I book a reservation for 2020? Going in the last week of September and the first week of October. Being at the Magic Kingdom for the anniversary, the 50th. We, my 30 year old daughter and me, 67, went last year for the 45th. There by accident. It was great. There were three days before the actual day in the Magic Kingdom. We had booked Epcot at that day of the anniversary. However, we did get the pins on that day. We are very much forward looking to be there for the 50th. So excited about when to plan for this 2020 vacation. We will be there for 14 days as we were last year."

Judy, I am with you there. I can't wait for the 50th anniversary. I will be there for the 50th anniversary. I'm going to be there on October 1st, 2021. The 50th anniversary is 2021. You're going to have to wait another year. It's not 2020. It's 2021. The 50th anniversary in 2021.
When can you book? Well, Disney takes reservations for room only packages, 499 days in advance. Which, if you're talking about arriving on October 1st, 2021, it would be May 21st of 2020. That would be the first day you could book for October 1st.
Now, if you want to be there a few days before, you could play with those dates but you cannot do that online. You have to call or use a travel agent. That's one of the reasons we recommend Destinations to Travel as a travel agent. It's one of the things they do is, do those early bookings. The room packages with tickets and things like that, will be available in July typically, it's the last week of June, June. It will be available in June.
Could that change? Maybe but I doubt it. I think Disney's computers are set up for that and I don't think they'll be able to get around that. The 2021 booking will be available in May, for room only. June for packages. That's the typical pattern and I don't see that happening.
Dad's Bottom Line
The Bottom Line is, In May 2020, you'll be able to book a room for 2021 and you'll have to work hard to beat me because I'm going to be first. I'm going to have that number one reservation for October 2021.
