Will the opening of the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge affect my trip.

Will the opening of the Star Wars Galaxy's Edge affect my trip.

"Hi Dad, our family of 4 were hoping to stay in a Deluxe resort in Nov 2019 (using Destinations to Travel, Andrea, as per your advice) but I'm now reading on forums that the majority of rooms are booked out in anticipation of the Stars Wars ride opening. Even in Sept/Oct no Deluxe resorts seem to be available on the Disney site.

Can this be true? I cannot wait till the last minute to see when the opening is confirmed as I have to book flights circa Jan 2019. I'm travelling from Ireland so I'm sure a lot of Ire/Uk readers would be interested in your reply.

P.S I'm not a Star Wars Fan!

Thanks."

It's too early

Hi Rory, thanks for the question.

While we don't know the date that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open, we do know that it will be in the fall of 2019.

But I don't think that's the problem with booking your hotel. I asked my friends at Destinations to Travel about it and I got a response from Casey Bolt, one of their top agents. Here's what she said.

"Hello there- so exciting that you are planning your 2019 Walt Disney World Vacation and of course you will be in excellent hands with our D2 Travel Agent Andrea!

2019 Resort Packages are only available to book 499 days in advance so not all November travel dates will show up as available right now since some are more than 499 days out. In terms of September and October availability at Deluxe resorts, I just did a quick search and found availability at several Deluxe resorts for 2019 dates in both of those months.

Sometimes the website can have issues if updates or new packages are being loaded so that could explain that lack of availability you found during your initial search. Since we don't know a specific opening date other than "Late Fall 2019" for the opening of Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios- that doesn't give us too much to go on in terms of anticipated booking dates unfortunately but hopefully we will hear more updates from Disney soon!

Get with Andrea and have her do another search for your Fall 2019 dates at a deluxe resort. I'm sure she'll get some great package quotes put together for you! Happy Planning!"

I totally agree with what Casey says. Let Andrea know what you are looking for and she'll take care of you as soon as the prices become available. It's just going to require a little patience, but not much. Any day now you'll be able to book.

Besides, it's too early to book airfare.

As to the effect Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will have on your trip, it won't be much unless you are there right when it opens. Typically when a new land opens there are big crowds right as it opens then the crowds settle into the normal patterns.

Yes, Hollywood Studios will be busier, but that means the other parks will be less busy. I think Galaxy's Edge is going to draw even bigger crowds than Toy Story Land is but if you don't go over there it won't effect you at all.

Dad's Bottom Line

The bottom line is a little patience will be rewarded. You're going to have a great trip.
