Hi Dad! I’ve used the information here to plan our trip in Dec. Thanks for the great info! My question is–do you think it is worth it to purchase park hopper tickets when the parks close so early during early December? We are a family of 5. The hopper would cost us the same as tickets to Mickey’s Very Merry Party. Would you suggest purchasing one over the other? We’ve never been to Disney around the holidays, so I knew that Dad would know best! Thanks so much for your help!

Dad’s not a big fan Answer
Thanks for the nice words about Dad. This is fun. You’re gonna have a blast. Now about those tickets …
Dad is not a real big fan of the Park Hopper option for the Magic Your Way Tickets. Yep, I’ll say it again … I’m not a big fan of park hopping.
If you read all the Disney Forums and talk to people, you’ll hear lots of talk about people flitting (yes, I meant to use that word) from park to park. Dashing to and fro and boy does it sound like a lot of fun. A lot of fun if you like wasting time.
There it is. I’ve said it. Park hopping wastes time. The best travel time between parks is probably from Epcot to Disney Hollywood Studios where you can actually walk in about 15 minutes. It will take you 30 minutes or more to go between any of the other parks, and that’s just gate to gate.
I know a lot of people go to one park in the morning, go back to the hotel and rest in the afternoon and then go to a different park in the evenings. I’m OK with that. But I think you can plan to spend a full day at a specific park.
Now before you start writing nasty notes to Dad to say we like to do Early Extra Magic Hours then go to another park to avoid crowds. OK, I get it. You could do that. But you could also just pick a less busy day to visit that park and skip the Extra Magic Hour park (which will normally be the busiest park).
I know some of you like to go a park during the day, then eat at Epcot at dinnertime. That’s great. No problems. There are lots of great restaurants in Epcot and it’s hard to catch them all. This is a great reason to add the Park Hopping option.
I am however a big fan of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. It’s one of my favorite parts of Christmas at Disney World. We love the snow on Main Street, the Parade, the cookies and hot chocolate, the Christmas shows, it’s just a great time. You’ll have a blast.
As to where to get tickets, buying tickets is not really hard. You can get them in a WDW vacation package from Destinations to Travel or you can save a bit of money and buy them directly from The Official Ticket Center.
Dad’s Bottom Line
Linda, save the money. Enjoy Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Build a great plan and you’ll have a blast.
