What is your opinion of the Port Orleans Riverside as a resort? We are planning on going in mid-December and unfortunately the Polynesian is a little out of the price range my husband is willing to let me pay 🙁
Dad is not a big fan of the Moderate Resorts at Disney World. They are sprawling resorts and to me seem more like campsites than resorts. A lot the guest buildings are a long way from the main building and transportation is slow at best.
I also think they are overpriced.
But all that being said, the Port Orleans Riverside is probably the best of the bunch right now because it has been refurbished with queen sized beds in each room. That’s a big plus.
Dad prefers 2 rooms at a Value Resort over 1 at a moderate. One room at a moderate is about 320 square feet and has 2 beds. Two rooms at a Value Resort is 520 square feet and has 3 or 4 beds (the combination of 1 king and 2 full beds is great for most families) and 2 bathrooms. Yes, 2 bathrooms.
With 2 rooms you have as much space as in any of the Deluxe Resorts and you have 2 bathrooms. (Did I mention how great it is to have 2 bathrooms?)
Of, course, Dad prefers the Pop Century Resort, but the All Star Resorts give you the same value. There will be a brand new Value Resort next year that will bring even more family friendly rooms to Disney World. It’s called the Art of Animation resort. It will open in May. Until then Dad still recommends …
My opinion of the Port Orleans Riverside has nothing to do with the look (it’s classy) or the service at the hotel. It’s all about the size of the rooms and the value you get for your money. We haven’t stayed at the Port Orleans, but we have stayed at the Caribbean Beach Resort which is very similar. Bottom line get two rooms at the Pop. You’ll be much happier.
